The University of Cape Town is pleased to invite you to the 8th Research in Engineering Education Symposium. REES 2019 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from 10–12 July 2019.

REES is the biennial symposium of the Research in Engineering Education Network (REEN), an international community of scholars interested in conducting high quality work in, and advancing the field of, engineering education research. One of the goals of REEN is the development of meaningful collaboration between engineering education researchers working in different parts of the world. As such, we are pleased to announce that REEN is partnering with SASEE, the South African Society for Engineering Education, for a joint biennial conference in 2019. Following on the success of a REES on all the other continents (except Antarctica!), hosting this conference in Africa for the first time fulfils the mission of REEN as an international, independent and inclusive forum to advance scholarly discourse on research in engineering education. Given the exciting potential for networking and collaboration between engineering education scholars, practitioners and students, the theme of REES 2019 is: Research in Engineering Education: making connections.

Duncan Fraser Award 



This 'emerging scholar' award will be presented to the student author of the best paper at REES2019. The award will be presented to honour the memory of Prof Duncan Fraser, who was a pioneer in engineering education research and an inspiration to many young educators and researchers worldwide. Attached to the award is a monetary prize of $500.
